Bio
William DAVE HAMAR de la Brethoniere -- musician born in Tampa, FL. Raised both domestically and overseas, he returned to Florida to obtain music degrees from both Hillsborough Community College, and the University of South Florida. For the past twenty-two years, Dave has proven to be a top-level drummer by performing a wide range of styles, and numerous concert venues. From banging on trashcans, accompanying belly dancers, and acrobatic rock music spectaculars at Busch Gardens, to performing on a cruise ship for most of 2013 in Europe, and touring the world with singer/songwriter Mandy Harvey, Dave performs about two to three hundred times per year, sometimes more! He has also been an Educator & Coach for nineteen years. Besides being a private instructor, places he's taught include Lovewell Institute for the Creative Arts & Saint Leo University. Dave also plays guitar & piano, and has even scored nine musicals!
My Bands
Because I'm a freelance musician, I play many different bands/artists either local or out of town, at any given time. Most of the time, however, I play with Something Major Band. We're an eclectic group of musicians with the unique ability to play almost any style of music, for almost any type of event including concerts, weddings, corporate events, parties & more! The members are my dearest friends and WORLD-CLASS musicians that play from their hearts. I also play with The Bay Kings Band, and tour with the amazing Mandy Harvey.
My Music
I've been writing songs for over twenty years. It was something that attracted me to playing music in general. Most of my adult life has been spent studying and listening to music deeply and intensely in search of that MAGICAL thing that always brings us back to our favorite songs.​ Catchy melodies, head-bobbing grooves, & heartfelt meaningful lyrics are like the Holy Grail for me. Although I love the songs that I've written, there's an everlasting journey to write the perfect song. Once one is written, I'm on to the next one! ​If you'd like to listen to my songs, check out the band, Anyan Dévery. Pronounced, "any and every," it's music composed by me with my best friends, and performed by professional musicians (also my best friends).
Lessons
One on one drum lessons are available! I focus on: basics & fundamentals, technique, longevity & health, reading sheet music, principles of recording, performance skills, traversing various styles (rock, funk, jazz, latin, pop, etc.), tuning drums, college/audition preparation, defining your role as a drummer, and ultimately SELF-EXPRESSION through this beautiful art.​ Lessons are taught here in my studio in St. Petersburg, FL (near downtown). All ages and levels are welcome, but I specialize in teaching high school & adult students. I limit the amount of students I take on.
